Default What compressor?

I'm getting the keys to my first house next Friday so looking to get a compressor and some air tools so I can play about with the other half's KA.

What do you lot recommend size wise for DIY use?

I am planning on doing a little spraying with it as the KA has some rust that needs sorting.

3hp minimum 150litre tank, dont buy 4hp as they need a good power supply and are troublesome.Dont buy a chinese nail either as you cant get parts

I bought a clarke se16c100 which is 3hp 14cfm displacement with a 100 litre receiver. It has been very good and I have used a da sander with it, also have used an airfed mask with small spraygun. They do this model in 100,150 and 200 litre versions but the pump is still the same.

Jawell has a "Chinese" 1
3HP 150LT Belt Driven 230V 14.9cfm
Ł375 three airline fittings etc ,years warrantee ,They replace parts
And parts are available .I just got one myself ,Its good enough for your home garage
http://www.jawel.co.uk/index.php?mai...oducts_id=3075

Ignore the Ł240 price thats the smaller unit ,Which is not good enough.

Best of with the machine mart one, that Jawel one is not a decent model.Clarke stuff is fairly reasonable at a reasonable price and plenty of places to buy spares

Just register on machinemart site for catalogue then wait for a vat free voucher, got mine for Ł399 if I had wanted the 150 litre one it was Ł439

Here's a pic of it I run hard lines from one garage to the other so that I do t compress any paint fumes, a must if you are using an airfed mask. Then I have a few drop legs to get the water out with a separator at the end followed by a coalescing filter, then the mask has a carbon filter on the waist belt and I also use a small gun mounted separator to be sure.

Here's the separator I use, but I add the coalescing filter when painting

Well I have ran a da sander with it and although it runs a lot the pressure never drops, also managed to use a devilbiss airfed mask with a devilbiss sri pro spraygun again with no pressure drop. When spraying though I reduce the cut out to 8 bar as it appears to reduce the amount of moisture in the air and the compressor doesn't get too hot. Defo a good investment though. I had two or three vat free vouchers over Christmas and new year so not sure when another is due.
Ultimate compressor is a screw compressor but can't get much under 2k so unless doing a lot not worth the expense.
