Default Compressor Noise

Hi Guys

Can you put a compresser in say a box stuffed with sound deadening.

I know it sounds silly but its for home use and i need to get it as quiet as possible.

Cheers

Mate of mine has done it with a generator for his garage, a wooden box wrapped in thick carpet, certainly makes a big difference!

check with amusement parks if you can, they use SILENT running compressors on a lot of machines. I know someone who bought a couple for pennies and made a good one since they didnt know what to do with em.

His came from pleasure beach in blackpool. Its different to the regular motor and piston type. bit like a rotary engine...

If you want to enclosed a piston type compressor make the box so the lid can be lifted a little as the comp needs cool air to cool itself,if you dont do this they run hot a piss oil out everywhere if you flog it to death.Quiet air costs more mate.......vane compressors and screw compressor are quieter but can cost a lot more money

Mate of mine with the generator put a computer fan in one side and a small vent in the other, run it off the genny's 12v supply. Was more than adequate to keep it cool!

I was going to say could i not put a fan in the box and wire it in to give it some ventilation.

Its going to be a clarke best driven 150litre one.

What sort of noise are they, Its pretty professional!

if you want a quiet compressor buy a hydrovane, they are really quiet. some piston compressors do come in sound proofed boxes, they normally have 2 cooling fans built in. most piston compressor are really noisey, but if there belt driven they are quieter.

build a mini shed/lean to off the back of your workshop or garage, line it with big thick carpet etc, add a couple of fans, one sucking in and one blowing out, and pipe through the wall to a manifold with gauge bolted on the wall and run the cable through and plug it in inside so its easy to start/stop. job done.
