Default Budget tool storage

Right, I was reading the thread on here the other day about tool boxes (not that I can find it now!) and it made me very jealous

Been thinking of this for ages, but I need to upgrade my tool storage a bit methinks. As I've not really had any space, I've just been working out of crappy plastic boxes of late, but I'd like a chest of some kind now to keep in the shed and keep things a bit more tidy.

Sadly, being a student, I'm on a tight budget so don't want to spend hundreds upon hundreds on something, so was wondering if anyone had any ideas on where to look?

Been told Clarke are poo-pants, but that's about it! Help

Halfrauds Industrial boxes are very good! Roller bearing drawers, ive got the top and bottom boxes, ive put a snap on badge on them and everyone thinks its real! I used snap on boxes everyday at work and i would say the Industrial boxes are just as good as snap on!

Keep looking in halfords as they are always on offer in there for not much money at all!

Hmmm, that's worth considering.

I think I can get one through my uni course actually. Will have an ask on that!

Never understood why they're so expensive to be honest. How do Snap On etc justify it?

I know the tools are pricey, as they're very good quality and guaranteed etc, but surely a box is a box within reason?

nowt worng with halfords boxes, they do the job, its whats inside that counts!

look on the halfords website, they sometimes do offers. The large black roll cab and top box was only £300 the other month.

or just do a search on ebay, theres heaps of boxes on there for not alot of money.

the few hundred quid you spend on a new halfords "industrial" box, speak to a guy at a local garage mate and get the snap-on blokes number and see what trade in boxes he has for reddies, sure he/she can sort you something out that will outlast a halfords jobbie.

Get a halfrauds and a Snappy side by side, then take them apart, you'll soon see the difference. Going used Snappy really is the best bet. Or ask your dealer if he has any new damaged stock, this quite often goes for a song.

Saw the one on Halfords site, wasn't too bad. Might look into whether I'd get trade on that too.

£595 from £1100 is a good discount, but way more than I'd want to spend on a tool box. If I was in and out of it for 8 hours every day, then maybe, but for the use it will get, it would just be a big waste of money for me!

well i thought i'd be the 1st to suggest Britool top boxes, i bought mine when i was at college doing my mechanics course, that was 10 years ago, and its still going strong, you can get them for less than £200 now too, http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=143137. mine holds a fair amount of weight in the drawers too, if you look after it you'll have it for a while. and the box underneath is a facom mid section, about £170 today, combined they're brilliant, and pretty good on a budget to.

Keep an eye on Halfords. When they do deals they are worth buying. I got the big roller cabinet in black - Halfords Industrial - for £230 with a massive Halfords Professional socket set, spanner set and screwdriver set thrown in for free. I waved my trade card and was told it would cost more with the trade card as trade customers don't get the sale packages.

Get an old filling cabinet, a proper metal one. Great for keeping tools in, especially stuff in smaller boxes, and for power tools etc.
