Default Xr3 build date ?

Hi all,was wondering if anyone could help,I've got a 1982 xr3 and wanted to now what month it was built,I know it was built in 81 as wheels and all the trim and wings are stamped 81 but they don't say the month is there a way of finding out cheers

It couldn't pick up my 89 or 90 Escort so probably won't do yours - picked up my 99 Focus though..

All xr3 and a lot of xr3i well be stamped 81. It's the part prefix of a mk3 81smxxxxxxx or similar.

First part is a model designation (81sm) middle part is part ID base number (eg all ford wings have same base number, all door have same base number etc) the suffix is 2 letters eg AA or AB or BA etc.

All mk1 focus have 98xx start numbers.

In short doesn't mean an 81 build date

Gimme the last 2 letters of the vin before the 5 digit number and i can find out. eg your vin will end (year)(month)(5 numbers)

No worries. Just re-read your original post, your wheels are probably dated 81 because they would of been cast by the supplier months in advance of the build.

Get some pics and a thread up, I love a mk3 XR, have one myself
