Default Using a bit too much oil Any idea's

Hello as above my cossie uses a bit too much oil, not loads but still too much. What could cause this

The engine and turbo were rebuilt last year and its only done about 9,000 miles since, it doesnt smoke that i can see, when i boot it i see sum smoke but its more fuel than oil. Sometimes it smokes a little when cold but not all the time. Its not leaking from anywhere.

Theres no play in the turbo but is it still possible that thats the cause or could it be the vavle guides, i dont think its the rings but im not sure

Any ideas people, i dont what to replace the turbo etc only to find its something else

Cheers
Rich

how much oil are you using, mine users about a litre every 1000 miles, and i have no visable signs of leakage at all, i was lead to believe this is quite normal on a cossie

Mine uses quite a bit of oil, will go from Max to Min after 250 miles of hard motorway driving. Not sure how much oil Max to Min is, not more than 1/2 litre I guess but can someone confirm??

mine uses a Load of oil if i go on the motorway!
but not too much if i stick to normal roads where speed
is varied and im starting and stopping a lot!

so i guess its under vacume that mine uses oil!?

hence re-build, bottom end, head, everything!

mine used to drink oil bad till i took the head off and had it checked out.
the inlet valve guides were worn out so i had them done & exhaust done.
the bottom end had only done 3000 miles so that was left alone put it back together now i hardly uses any.
it did use to smoke bad when cold not a bit now touch wood.

I had new valves and guides when I lost my cambelt last year , anyway it still uses oil, doesn't smoke at all though, not at idle or on boost, weird. Oh and it's got a nearly new turbo.

can i ask,

What exhausts are you guys using?
Size etc
DO they have middle boxes?

just reading something that says
If using a large bore pipe on a turbo car (particulaarly if middle box removed) then the almost complete lack of back pressure
can cause oil use

says that the turbo oil seal relies on some back pressure to keep the seal.

not sure how much truth there is in this, BUT the article appears in a well
known tuners catalog!

Funny you say that about the exhaust, i have a 3" scorpion with the middle box removed, maybe thats the problem that would be easier to fix.

Anyone else know anymore about this

Cheers
