Default Cosworth Head Rebuild - Recommendations/Advice

Hello All

Gosh blast from the past, i've been absent for a few years from here. Well really since i took the car off the road about 5 years ago .... lockdown has finally given me the kick up the RS to fix it .... well that and the silly price the cars worth now !

Short story - Approx 10 years ago / 20,000 miles ago (Cossie 4x4 sapph) no4 cam cap came loose. It snapped one of the cam cap studs and the camshaft whipped around and snapped

I took it to a 'reputable' engine builder near me in Warrington and they drilled the stud out in situ and inserted a helicoil on the snapped stud hole....... BUT they did is ever so slightly pissed .... great

I rang around a few other places and they said just open the cam cap hole a little to be able to slide it over the slightly pissed stud and tighten her up good and you'll be fine .... so i did ...... then about 20k later its done it again, and snapped the stud off in the helicoil this time and stripped the other hole threads

it now needs, one stud drilled out of the helicoil and the other hole drilling and helicoiling ..... while its out I want ideally a mild head rebuild now too, valves lapped in, mild skim, new guides, vapour blasted etc ......

I've rang around a couple of places, but i'm just asking for some advice ..... Anyone else had this ? .... anyone RS orientated local to me (Knutsford, Manchester) .... ideally any decent engine / machine shop could do it .... i should've just heicoiled the bloody hole myself a few years ago

So anyone in Manchester area who knows their beans with decent engine machining ?

Thanks guys !

I recently got mine done by Steve at Vulcan engineering, bit far from yourself but if you struggle its an option. Expect to change the valves if you go new guides though!

Very pleased with the work done, saying that i didnt have the issues with the studs but i imagine they could sort this
