Default Turbo choice

Hi All
with so many choices now for turbo for my Cosworth engine can I get your thoughts on
what you would recommend
my engine which I’m getting from peter Ireland in a week or so
202 block built initially by A1 rally sport and refreshed by peter
it ran in a car giving a reliable 450bhp on a T38
what I’m after is a turbo that will give 400-450 but with minimal lag
what would your advise be on choice of turbo
thanks

I expect most will tell you twin scroll BW EFR turbo and twin scroll manifold as that seemed to be what I was being told.
Yes the EFR turbos are tried and tested and will give you the results but on the advice of my mapper I've decided to try the New Garrett G25-660. I'm having a tubular manifold made at the moment but as you can now get them on a T3 flange you could just buy the turbo and bolt on to standard manifold.
Mine is G25-660 external gated with .92 rear housing. Once the manifold is finished it will all be fitted and mapped so will then have some figures to share as no one seems to have fitted one on a YB engine yet but looking at what they are making on other engines and how fast they seem to spool it should be very good.

Borg Warner efr on twin scroll manifold was great on my car at 470 bhp. Worked very well at 400 bhp on Lower boost too.

no idea yet as still waiting for my mate to finish the car off - hopefully it will be better than the GT3076r it replaced as that was laggy as hell and then all the boost came in at once which made it horrible and difficult to drive fast

Go for an internally gated efr 7064 if it’s 450 hp and low lag you want.
I wouldn’t bother with the new Garrett G25’s if I were you.
not enough out there tried and tested on a yb so could be a huge waste of money....

Cheers Paul

Hi comp YB. Had mine on for the last 2 years. They are lots of variants though. Different turbine housing sizes in particular

What car is the turbo in as almost 9000rpm does'nt sound like a Cosworth engine?

I would like to see how the g25 performs on a standard fannymould. That's an upgrade I could actually afford at some time.

Markk is your holset on a standard fannymould or aftermarket tubular affair?

engine is 200 fully build. I’m shifting at around 8000 but the rev limiter is 8500-8700.
not sure exactly as the engine was tune before I got it and the original tachometer ends at 7000. Need to get an aftermarket tachometer.

Standard 4wd manifold with a T3-T2 adapter.

I should be able to tell you how the G25 performs in a few weeks time when mines mapped but it is going on a tubular manifold but with T3 flange.
Not found anyone running the new G-series on a YB yet so will be interesting to see how it performs.

It's been about 4 months since killing my T34 and deciding to go for a G25 instead of the normal EFR direction most take. Manifold should be finished by next week so not expecting to have any results till early January but as I can't find anyone running one yet it's all a bit unknown and nerve racking but also exciting at the same time

somewhere between 450-500bhp will be amazing with torque to match which I was told it will do without breaking a sweat. Told them to be kind to my engine rather than pushing numbers as not looking to build a new engine till next year then can see what a G25-660 can do when pushed hard.

Tubular manifold test fitted today with Garrett G25-660 to work out the best position for the external wastegate take off. Will be fed back in to the downpipe as don't want the noise of a screamer pipe.
