2wd cosworth cylinder head follower port size/oversize follower supplier
Hi all.
I changed the ina followers on my 2wd saph for replacement new I a followers as the 2 rear exhaust followers were a bit noisy.
After changing them they were still noisy even after giving the car a good run.
Removed the cam cover last night and measured the lobes, journals, follower diameter etc.
The lobes look a little worn but are within tolerance.
The journals on both cams are slightly underside.
The followers measure at 34.91 mm but the ports they go in are 35.30mm iirc so they are out of tolerance but are within tolerance if I go by the standard size qouted in the manual so I'm guessing I have oversize followers and if so I presume instead of the oil filling the follower it's escaping out from between the follower and the port it sits in in the head?
Anybody any idea where to source a set of oversize followers from?
If I replace the cams which I think I will I'm thinking of up rating the inlet to an ab07.
Would this give much power gain?
No idea what my car is producing now, guessed to be between 350-380 but no graph to prove.
Cheers,lee

10K+ Poster!!
I wouldn't re use any gasket myself, certainly not something critical but I am sure some people will have tried it.
I think I would send the head to a specialist tuner and get it rebuilt and flowed etc whilst they are at it.

I'd say mountune MLS gasket Lee and standard headbolts, take it you mean you have arp stud and nuts seen as you'll have a 205 block?

Yeah, that's what I think is in there, arp stud and nut kit.
Getting a shot of an oil pressure gauge this week,at a bit of a loose end and feel like taking the head off to check it out as the ticking was there before and after changing the followers.

Thanks for all the replies.......guess everybody was too busy commenting on fastlife91's multiple threads to notice mine lol.
Anyway, got torn in about it today and have been speaking to Paul from p.j motorsport.
I sent him a video and he said to check the cams.
The high part of the lobe looks nice and shiny,no visible sign of wear but the rest of the lobe is worn through the hardened part and therers some pitting on a couple of lobes, exhaust cam being the worst.
The parts list is growing as I broke the bottom pulley which was stuck solid,I need a timing belt and I might buy an alloy rad as I had to remove the standard rad to get into the pulley and it's always annoyed me it's standard and the intercooler is alloy.
Hoping to get the cams checked somehow to see if they are worn and tonight I'll check the follower buckets for oil supply by winding it over with the followers removed.
Still can't see anything that makes me immediately say 'that's it' but the cams are suspicious!
