Default auto box to cosworth YB

Before you say im mad let me tell you about my vehicle
MK3 Transit fitted with cosworth YB engine and T5 gearbox
I use this every day for work and also drag racing and have had a Helix 5 paddle clutch and also a Helix six paddle clutch and currently running a Helix organic
Having spoken to the MD of Helix and discussing the uses my van gets he advised me the only way to go was put the paddle clutch in when on the strip and organic one for everyday driving as he say as soon as a paddle clutch is slipped its ruined and as my van weighs 1780KG without tools and driver i have no option but to slip it sometimes on hill starts etc as im running a big turbo which doesnt spool up till 4000 rpm
having spoken to many drag racers they say the best route would be a C4 auto box with high stall torque converter and twin step rev limiter and transbrake
the van runs about 375 bhp with 50 extra with nos
the C4 auto box was available on mustangs with a pinto engine and as the T5 fits a mustang also there must be a bell housing which will bolt straight on
w
thats basically what im asking as i can get the C4 auto box no probs its the bell housing i need
Any help much appreciated

One issue I can see is the flex plate, Cossie crank has more bolt holes than a Pinto if I remember correctly.

I did not know that a paddle was ruined if you slip it, I have a paddle on my car and I guess I am going to slip the clutch t some point. Oh well if it doesn't slip under power then it can stay, they are quite quick and easy to swap on my car.

Very nice conversion!!! I can see in your case the reason for wanting an auto box. You must have some fun in it , a proper sleeper!
Have you tried getting advice from a gear box specialist?

Hi plumberdave
I too have had to go down this route, I have found a sierra auto with 2 litre pinto so the box will bolt to my block, I intend to have it recon with a manual valve block and gear set from Scorpio cossy box when funds allow, I'm not expecting this to manage lots of power but stg1/2 I'd be happy with, I think my box is the a4ld not sure if its another name for c4 ? Just keep a look out for a Granada/sierra with 2 litre pinto automatic if u find this is the one, the flexplate will need to be modified to fitnto 9 bolt crank, good luck keep me posted
