Default Oil pumps

Is there any reason not to use a 4x4 oil pump on a 2wd engine? I've just swapped one into my current engine and am seeing low (read sod all) oil pressure. Just wanted to check that it should be ok before I start stripping everything down.

The pumps are very different but they appear to be bolt on compatible. I think the cause of my low oil pressure is found though, a bit of muck was caught between the mating faces so although I'd torqued up the pumps I got still get a feeler guage in there. I'll clean them up tomorrow and cross my fingers.
