Default Where to source genuine ford sapphire bonnet

My 1989 RWD sapphire cosworth has a 4x4 bonnet and I'd like to replace with a non vented bonnet.

Where is the best place to source a genuine (non pattern part) item? I assume ford don't/won't have anything for such an old car now? I've been looking on eBay/Gumtree etc but only found tatty rusty ones.

Keep looking on ebay they do appear both new genuine and good second hand ones, also look on here as people breaking cars all the time.

Oh no, you had one to get rid off...

I've messaged a few breakers already.

I assume a new ford one is out of the question these days?

Are you trying to get the car back to how it was in standard form? As you are aware a lot of 2wd owners have the vented 4x4 bonnets to help let out engine heat when they have upped the power. Is yours running big power or still standard ? My reservation would be overheating problems if you have upped the power.

I agree with you if you have a standard 2wd but as I said if you have a big power engine conversion there is a lot of extra heat generated that needs to be able to escape from the engine bay.

Yes trying to return to standard, only thing that has been changed visually (well apart from the clear indicators which I've replaced already).

Car is running standard power with just a s/s exhaust and K&N panel filter and not planning on changing this.

You dont need the vented bonnet then. Have you asked on our forum if there are any 2wd owners with the original bonnet who have done a power upgrade who may do a swap with you for your 4x4 vented one? If no joy with that you will have to try the breakers, as the likely- hood of finding a genuine new bonnet is pretty remote. Best of luck.

Mine was 500bhp on a standard rwd bonnet with no issue and will be 650 this year. Rwd bonnet and lights look far better than 4x4 stuff

I am suprised you have never had any overheating problems , you must have the cooling system well sorted.

No I don't need the vented bonnet and would happily do a swap if anyone is interested? I didn't go down this route initially as my vented bonnet has been sat on (I think) and needs a PDR guy to Make perfect but other than that it is rust free and in Flint grey.

If you find a bonnet, make sure it's the correct one. 2wd bonnets should curl upwards at the screen edge where 4x4 ones slope down towards the scuttle. Some none vented bonnets slope down like the 4x4 ones and they look shite

andy to me it looks like they threw it at the car and it just happened to end up in the corner with a wiring harness that a child of six would have done a better job making

Also chucking out my Accuvolt system, CDI unit & 4 coil system so I can put the battery back in its normal position. While im at it will put the engine, Turbo, Diff & Gearbox back to standard. A modified car is just that a modified car & the vented bonnet is fitted for a reason.
It may be gay to you but I think mine proves they can be rather manly with a vented bonnet & a battery in the boot. .

Un less there's no longer room for it under the bonnet as you need the space for some thing else

im putting my battery in the boot because i prefer it there.i was thinking of locating my dizzy to to where the battery once sat but i think the car will be hard to start

Same as I have but even with the vented bonnet you do get a lot of heat build up. Fair play to you if the standard bonnet copes ok.

2WD Cosworth bonnet is a standard Ford part as used on all Sapphire models. Not the 5 door hatchback though.

Perhaps Gary wasn't one of the ones I mailed, I sent a few enquiries and foolishly didn't keep a note of who I had asked already...

Thankfully have sourced one from a member on here which he should be sending to me next week

I'll definately contact Gary as I'm also after some door cards due to the usual sagging issue.

Thanks for all the helpful responses guys

My 2wd already had a 4x4 bonnet when i bought the car but I'd never change it for a std sapphire one.

They all should have been made with one imo

No mate, the design was changed around the time the 4x4's came out. Just have a look at a 2wd bonnet and compare it to a 4x4 one and you'll see what I mean

No mate it's not, the 1990 sapphire non vented bonnet is different to a pre 1990 non vented bonnet
