Newbie looking for info on YB's
Hello,
I'm new to Cosworths and I'm looking to learn a lot more about the YB's. I live in the US and have a pinto eao 2.0 in an older car that I would like to make some more power. Not sure if my car is off topic but the motor isn't and it's going to be a N/A, carbed pinto.
I know that the Cosworth had a steel crank, special rods, pistons and the head itself, but will the stock pinto crank gear, aux shaft and belt tensioner work with the Cosworth head and timing belt.
TIA.

A good pace for info can be the tuners web sites:
Nms
Graham Goode racing (ggr)
There were some cosworth special magazines from either FastFord or Performance Ford that you could search for.
Have a look on the Fast Ford magazine web site they did have quite a few technical guides in PDF format.

Cosworth is a half round tooth belt. Pinto is a trapezoidal tooth.
Half round tooth pulleys are required for the yb, and can be fitted on the pinto crank and aux shaft.
You need the yb tensioner on the yb head.
As you seem to be aware, none of it fits the lima pinto.

I believe it's expensive to go N/A with a YB, the Pinto is a tunable engine in itself, have you considered this?
What you have planned was Cosworth's original idea, i.e. sell their head as a performance part (YAA). I would be interested in how you get on.

I'm still on the fence about building the pinto or using cosworth parts. Seems to me that the cosworth would be easier to coax some power out of without putting too much strain on the motor.
The car is going to be built as a daily driver and for long trips. The car is a 1928 Ford Tudor (hope that won't get this thread shut down), the motor fits nicely with the steering and hood. I already adapted a T5 to it and would like to stay above a V8 for fuel mileage.
This might be old news here.

For equal HP the YB valve train will be less stressed than the pinto valve train.
Likewise for equal HP the YB will be easier to live with and more efficient than the pinto as a daily driver.
You can have power like that BDA29 from a YB, its only money.
The 2WD YB cosworths got T5's from the factory.

All the T5 parts for the cosworths seem to be over there and I wasn't aware of them at the time. I pulled a 1991 lima 2.3 T5 from wrecking yard and just had to modify the top 2 holes of the bellhousing (and use the 2.3 clutch set-up).
I don't think I need the 250hp the BDA has in the video, 200 or so will be fine and would be a major upgrade from the 80-90hp factory model. I was thinking about a turbo set-up for the stock head but with no room for an intercooler, blow through would be rough and draw through had it's own set backs.
Now I'm on the hunt for good used YB parts from a distance and getting them shipped, both of which make me nervous as I've always looked at parts personally for those type of prices. I would like to get the whole motor but I think shipping would kill the deal.

Cost me £650 shipping to get a complete engine from UK to AU.
Yeah can be a bit of stress sending a bucket of cash then waiting months to see what it bought. One of the traders on here or better known cosworth breakers would be a good source if your uncomfortable with ebay.
