Default Staph Cos brake problem

I've got a 4x4 sapphire cosworth and have lost most brakes?

Pedal is still there but is pretty solid. I was thinking its the servo but was wondering if there was any common faults with these thinks?

Cheers,auld

The cosworth doesn't have a servo, its power brakes with a pressure filled accumulator

If it stops working the handbrake light should come on

Mine was due to a corroded/rusty fuse in the drivers side foot well, check that.

The red light usually comes on when there's a drop in pressure in the system, fluid loss or another fault with the system. Did the amber warning light come on at the same time? If the fuse checks out ok, you need to start looking at whether the pump is working ok (you should hear it pressurise after being left overnight), fluid level in the M/C. Another good one on these systems is the accumulator looses pressure. This is basically what gives you your 'servo effect' a normal braking system has. If that goes, you'll need a new one. I wouldn't drive it until you got it fixed though, as it's bloody dangerous

I always thought the abs fuses and relays were in the passenger side foot wells.

Thanks again guys.

Checked out the fuses in the n/s under the dash and they are all fine.

I'll need to check the other suggestions that marcyg has mentioned.

Cheers,auld

Am sure the pipe set up is on the other side on a 2wd compared to a 4x4.

You need to check the basics, such as the power supply.

There are many other things such as the pressure switch that may be at fault, but above is the first place to start, it's a complex system.

It's known for the fuse etc to melt, due to the load.

A 4x4 should have 2 relays and 2 fuses to operate the pump at 140 bar system pressure and then 105 bar if the first circuit has failed. As the pump isn't working, then both circuits have failed.

The common features of these 2 circuits are:
- the wire from the pressure switch to earth (brown)
- the connector on the pump
- the battery positive feed

Test:
- Check you've got 12V at terminal 30 of the 2 purple relays. If not, check the fuses and also the fusible link by the battery
- Check the connector is located correctly on the pump
- Check the brown wire in the pressure switch connector is indeed connected to earth

Of course, it is possible you have 2 separate faults........Test, then let us know.
