Cosworth caliper bleed nipple size? seized!
Just wondering if anyone knows the correct size socket or spanner for a cosworth rear caliper bleed nipple (Im guessing most fords are the same). I know the thread is M10x1 metric but I just wanted to confirm its an 11mm bolt and not some imperial oddness? a good quality 6 side 11 mm socket rounded on it, a 10mm is too small.
I am now stuck with 2 seized nipples on the back of the car so going to have to remove them tomorrow and see if I can get the damn nipples out.
Any suggestions?
I have plus gassed them tonight, so will try once more tomorrow
thanks

I am proper stuck with this one! I cant get a grip on them because of some spring clip type things under the nipples!
I have tried welding nuts on, heat, grinding flats, and I cant get them to shift at all..
Im loathe to drill them out because odds on the thread may be damaged and new nipples wont seal then.
Has anyone else got any tips or is it new caliper time?? (unless somewhere can drill them out and fit bigger nipples ..oooh err missus

Heat should of been enough to get it out. Have you got the caliper on the bench? It'll be a bit easier to do. The nipple is hollow so maybe an eeze out would get it if it does snap

I'm Finding My Feet Here Now
I had this problem on my cortina. I ended up hitting the end of the nipple with a small hammer inwards to 'shock' the thread loose. You need to hit it bang on square. I kept at it - and then try with socket - it eventually did move and came out. I had a spare so it did not matter about it being damaged.

Thanks Mike - yep the calipers are both off the car. I will have to try with heat again, as I was in a rush so couldnt probably give it as much as it needed.
With that said, I cant get a socket on it properly and that damn spring clip stops mole grips seating. I wonder if its losable? I suspect its to stop the bleed nipple ever working loose by keeping it under tension??
Cheers Johnny. Will try again with more heat and hammer tomorrow!!

Got an update. Copious amounts of heat and I got the nipples out! ace
But... then I decided to put a seal kit on them!
So I ordered it from bigred. Used my compressor to get the pistons out, made the mistake of stripping the bit underneath the piston (I thought there must be more orings to change in there) and had a right tussle to get the valve spring back down and circlip on lol
Anyway, I am now struggling greatly to get the pistons back in?!!!
They seem to be threaded (LH)
Is there a guide on 2wd cossie rear caliper seal replacement or can anyone advise how to get the bloody things back together. I have tried compressed air to lift the seal skirt on to the piston, no chance so far..>!!!
thanks
