3dr cossie shell no sunroof??
Ok guys,
I went to look at one of my shells on the weekend its brand new in primer.. Its a 3dr cosworth shell with no sunroof.. its NOT a motorsport shell but is a genuine Cosworth shell
Anyone shed any info if Ford did do shells with no sunroof for road use?

cosworth shells and base model shells have slight differences, one being the brake servo mounting holes easy one to tell as the base model is held in by 2 bolts going through and cosworth has 4 and base model doesnt have a hole for a wiring loom to go inside the car in the same place a cosworth does, could this shell not be a cosworth one with a roof reskin? ive never seen a cosworth/cosworth shell without a sunroof before other then race versions

Aaron, I have known about your shell for quite some time. It is a very rare shell indeed, its not one of the 909 ones but is an original 1986 motosport shell. These were made to group N spec so had all the brackets etc where as the 909 ones were lightweight group A spec and made in 1989 .
All the original group A and N cars inc the race RS500s were built from the same shell as yours. Very few race/rally cars used the later 1989 909 shells as they came about to late as the cars by then were being phased out.
I bet theres very few left, if any as they all got used up, hence Ford getting Karmann to build a new batch in 89
Perfect for restoring an original race/rally car with.
It will have the correct early bulkhead, tow eyes etc etc unlike the 1989 shells

The later 89 built shells were built in big numbers due to the massive succes of the rs500 race cars and Ford thought that the world would go mad building more race cars , sadly when they were outlawed in 91 this ment the demand for the brand new shells was almost nothing . hence why over the last 20 years there have been so many brand new 3 door shells kicking about

The plate says
Oaventry and a number, doesnt say much to me
Sierra cosworth
Zonder aanbouwdelen, bare shell, no parts with the shell
Afzetten na primer, remove from the productionline after primer.
Looks like a spare shell or whatever the reason is of a bare shell!

To add to this. In the rest of Europe, in The Netherlands and Germany for sure, the runroof was an option you could thick when ordering your 3dr Cosworth. So over here there are quite a few original 3dr's without a sunroof in their original shell, like mine for example

"zonder aanbouwdelen"..means without attachments
and "afzeten van primer" means switchoff after primer.
ps iam dutch ..and i have a 3 door without sunroof ,they always said to me that ,a 3door without a sunroof is, a motorsport body.
but last i heard ,when a guy was selliing probably one of the last new motorsport bodys,he said to me that ,i must realise that on a motorsportbody there is no sealing kit ,and most important a lot of brackets wich are on a 3 door with sunroof, and a 3 door without a sunroof ,are NOT THERE so you cant mount everthing together as you can on a "normal" body....
so without attachments must rever too a Motorsportbody i guess.
greetz ............hans

onder bodembescherming....did you read it correct?
because ive theres a Z in front of onder ..........like Zonder..that means
Zonder bodem bescherming = without bottomprotection
Onder bodem bescherming = under bottomprotection

It is probably a Grp N or A shell, regular cosworth for rally use. The RS500 motorsport shells have 0.4mm thick bodypanel and they are all numbered. If your shel has a regular 0.8mm thick panel then I think it must be a cosworth rallycar shell, taken out of production to be used in rally.....
