Im still waiting for some of the smaller heatshrink I ordered ages ago and its holding me up doing any of the small branches on the loom as i cant finish them off.

Have done a few bits and bobs though.

both ignition amps done now. coil/coilpack wire done too with the third wire for coilpack hidden under heatshrink so when i convert i just take off the coil connectors, crimp on the coilpack terminals and connector and job done.

Also done the MAP connector as its big enough for the heat shrink ive got while i wait for the smaller stuff.

also got some terminals ive been waiting for. The terminals were from a BMW but fit the ford diagnostic plug connector housing i had spare, so now i have the proper connector on my new loom.

Also got the right connectors for the ford 3 pin LAMBDA connector. Couldnt find new connector housings anywhere so used new terminals and seals in a good secondhand housing. Got a white one to be different to boring black and also have fitted a blanking end cap as i dont have a lambda on the car yet but will do eventually.

Also done one of the injector housings. Used yellow like ive seen on other looms and also right angle boots (in red!) as i got them free and again not boring black

hopefully the heat shrink i need will arrive soon and i can get on with the rest of the loom.

Getting neater as i go along and learning tricks to keep things tidy too so if i do a car loom or some small sublooms in the future they will be neater as well.

Nice job mate I've pinned all my 2wd loom out on a board ready to make a new one, Could you tell me what size (mm˛) you've used and if it's thinwall or standard cable please.

used thinwall throughout. Modern thinwall performs better in several ways. Better quality insulation meaning lower OD of the cable, higher current carrying capacity etc.

you need different size cables for different things on the loom as they all draw different currents. I overspecified a lot of my wiring.

Wont be fitted for a while yet as i need to make all the other engine bay sublooms as im going for a complete front end rewire when i fit the engine loom.

Also will do a set of testing on the complete wire. Each wire has been checked its going from right pin to right connector, and also resistance checked to make sure i have good connections. next i want to again test every single wire now its assembled including a continuity check with ALL nieghbouring wires to make sure ive not damaged it some place during assembly.

Sorry mate, what i should have said is that i have the wire sizes listed by using a set of callipers to measure the diametre of each cable with the sheathing striped off to work out the cross section mm˛. It's not 100% accurate doing it that way but i was going to over spec on the AMP rating by using thin wall cable to the sizes measured.
Biggest thing i need to know is by over specing the cable will it cause any issues with sensor readings due to higher resistance/capacitance.

Ginger

P.S. could you tell me where you got the yellow label and clear heatshrink covers

Cheers

youd be well overspeccing the wires if you used cross sectional area of an old original loom for the new loom as modern thinwall cable of the same cross sectional area carries a fair bit higher current.

On mine its the power and earths that are massively overspecced.

heatshrink you can get in loads of places, polevolt, vehiclewiringproducts, even ebay.

I've had a look at the amp ratings and the thinwall, 0.5mm is a few amps higher than the standard 1mm cable, looks like i could use this for the injectors etc, but for the extra 1 or 2 pence a metre i may aswell just use the thinwall 1mm.
