Default cossie rear caliper problem

i have sierra cosworth 2wd rear disc conversion.
ive had nothing but problems with it ever since fitting them about 7 years ago.
about 3 years ago i got some reconned calipers but still had problems with locking/ dragging/ crap handbrake.
today i removed a caliper as it seemed seized, the wheel was dragging all the time, so i worked it all loose and screwed the piston in again.
now i have a handbrake but no pedal brake with it!
whats going on??
is there something im not doing right or a way of setting these up because these have baffled me for years.

taken them apart - use the haynes. Is the arm moving freely? Since you have handbrake I would say there is an airlock so probably just bleed them

Yes. handbrakes ok now.
ive just striped the caliper off the car and repeated the procedure and now i have a bit of piston move but not a great deal, but i dont mind that because it will stop the rears locking.
think im still gonna go drums again though. they seem to work so much better than these silly screw in calipers

have you removed the standard rear escort bias valves? if not remove them they are the ones that mount above the arms with a link to the rear suspension arms, bin them and fit mk5 escort ones near the master cylinder

To set th calipers you have to pump the pedal to get the fluid into them do that they grip the disc
Then use the handbrake to take jo the slack
You have to wind the caliper in all the way first though
And make sure your master cylinder is up to the job of moving all that fluid

Thanks for all your comments. ive had caliper off yet again and it seems as if there was some air still trapped in that line further up which im guessing means there must be a tiny weap somewhere allowing a small amount of air in over time.
it moves ok now but the hand brake will pull through on the center cable adjuster if you pull it too hard plus its very weak. not even enough handbrake to lock the rear wheels on my lightweight car! Apparently cossie handbrakes have never been that great tho
