got a question which is open to all

The inlet side of the block theres an oil seperator which then originally goes back to the airbox and another smaller pipe connects to the inlet plenum,
since removing the airbox ive done away with the pipe that goes to the airbox but what im wanting to acheive is to get rid of the whole lot and simply have one pipe going from the oil seperator to the oil catch tank and to blank off the connector on the inlet plenum (i think its a one way valve anyway)

is this possible and will i encounter any problems?

Mines just blocked off and havent had any issues. Think the bailey breather kit came with a blanking plug if i remember correctly.

cheers dude, thought that would be ok.

Should help eliminate the build up of black oil in the plenum too

...ok before i begin i accept any piss taking that i rightly deserve, i had 2 T leads the wrong way around lol

Im just very relieved that it was a minor error on my part and not something major with any of the internals

She has a few issues which she suffered previously like occasional funny idling and slight revving now and again on its own accord (mainly when im comming to a stop but very occasional)

She goes extremely well and im very happy, just need to wait for my next bit of time off work so we can go on a long run to bed her in before the thrashing begins

been on 30 mile round trip and she hasnt missed a beat

only problem is whenever i come to a stop she revs up to 2k and drops back off, does this about 5 times then levels out and idles properly

Only other thing is that after the trip i checked the oil and it was on minimum (dont fear as i was watching the oil pressure gauge like a hawk on rat)
Its not leaking anywhere so my guess is that after priming the engine i lost a fair bit filling the oil galleries, hydraulic lifters, oil filter etc... to be honest i should have checked this before setting off

But in general a very smooth run

Most people round here know me as Jonboy, I just chose Jonnybravo for PF as Jonboy was already taken !

As for the idling fault could possibly be crap in the iscv, not sure about YB ones but the Vauxhall ones are very common for that fault, best bet it to remove it and clean it up with some brake cleaner.

Did you reset the base idle and co% etc. As said its like the Idle valve is sticking a little but best to get all the base settings done first. Mine was doin similar lately, but my thermostat is knackered and sticks open on a run making the engine cool too much and then it starts fast idleing until it heats up again.

cossies

Well with you rebuilding the engine and cleaning the internals etc, the mixture and base idles settings will likely have changed. Your MSD chip will have said what the idle co% adjustment should be set to (likely around 2.5-3%). Before any of this, you need to run it up to full operating temp, disconnect the idle valve and set the idle screw under the throttle body so that it idles at around 900rpm with the valve disconnected. This will set the base idle and you can then plug the idle valve back in.

Mixture can then be adjusted to suit the chip you have. Best to start at the beginning after a fresh build IMO, if you close to MSD, well worth popping it in for a full setup.

Really good write-up.
I'm considering new rings for my 2wd hence I found this article on a search.
Do you have to go under the car to take the engine out?
I'm trying to gauge where I can physically do the job on my car as space in the garage is an issue.
It would help if I didn't have to crawl under the car to remove the block.
Thanks
