Default High temp?

In my opinion my temp gauge is sitting high

It goes straight up to middle of the N and then goes down to middle of O and then repeats all the time whether driving in town or cruising 60mph
The car has a new temp gauge sender. I also tried 3 different stats and no different. I ran the car with no stat and the temp never when over M all the way to santapod
Any ideas? It's doing my head in

Cossie paranoia!!
Stop worrying, the gauges are notoriously inaccurate, and vary hugely, the fact the car is doing what it should and not overheating etc shows it's ok, it is even within the NORMal range anyway, mine sits around the top of the N all the time sometimes in traffic, when the fans cut in it drops 3C to under the bottom of the N, my fans come in at 95C and go off at 92C, as I set these temps on the ecu.
The amount of movement for just a tiny temp increase is totally disproportionate, ie just a few C's makes a massive difference, when up to temp, it just looks a lot worse than it is.
Certainly doesn't show/sound anything to worry about.

The temp's may show a little high but at least the mileage is showing very low for a 20+ year old cosworth

Mine sat the same at the n until I changed the clocks last weekend. Now sits a bit below halfway. Does make u a bit paranoid sitting up that high tho!

Mine usually sits around the M to the to R mark under normal driving conditions and on a cool day, but as said they are totally inaccurate, I.E one minute it will show one reading and the next another, however I do find they give a rough indication!

You don't want to be running with no stat, the engine will never reach it's optimum temperature and it won't warm up like it should, thus the reading is lower on the gauge!

So long as your cooling fans cycle as they should you are ok.

Thats an early 2WD model isn't it, around 89?

Yes it's 88 2wd. When the engine was in my White car it always ran in between the R and M even if driving hard. I reshelled the White cos into a mercury grey shell. I had a load of work done to the engine while it was out and since I've had it in the new shell the temp gauge is always right up there.
My mate suggested drilling a couple of holes in the stat and that seems to of cured it. It takes a bit longer to get up to temp but the temp gauge has not got to half way while driving around now.

I'd be more concerned with that fuel gauge mate - it says there's fuel in the tank

Whats your temperature then mate, its 'M' blimey mate that low why not fit an 'N' thermostat . I simply cannot believe in a modified Cossie people still use that gauge.

Depends on what you want I guess, if wanting to obtain originality etc, I have no problems with mine as I say I find mine good enough to give a rough estimate, although if a competition/track car I should think it's essential.

Don't listen to your, the reason why of old days a hole was drilled in the stat was for helping avoid air locks, nothing more, then along came the jiggle pin so no need.
The holes do NOTHING other than slow down warm up, nice lets keep the oil cooler so it can absorb more pollutants that cause more damage, it's the same thing as this 82C stat being needed, ie garbage, temperature does NOT kill HG's, boost does, a 82C stat will offer no more protection than any other.
I run a 88C stat, my fan is set to come on at 95C and go off at 92C, but last winter was set to 98C/95C.
