Default Help Saph new Battery

Hi people, my 89 2wd saph battery is currently dead and I need a new battery. Everyone keeps telling me I need an 097 one from Ford, but after speaking to them they say this means nothing. They have offered me two;

60ah 590
71ah 650

Does anyone know the finis for the correct battery and they are also telling me they may not fit in the tray.

at a lose end here.

any help appreciated

Not sure about finis codes but all I did was measure the size of the battery tray then went to Halfords and bought the biggest battery that would fit.
I'm pretty sure it is bigger than the two ratings you have listed.

You can't get square posted batteries from Ford anymore as far as i'm, aware? So anything they are selling you is going to be wrong.

You can still get square post batteries from www.carbatteryshop.co.uk amongst others.

it is difficult to get square post batterys now mate, tried 3 factors in nottingham last year when trying to get a battery for a escort, same story from all three, square posts have been discontinued and thats from five different manufactures (bosch, moriu, oldham and two others i can't remember). i ended up fitting a round post with adapters as posted by dazzle740
the one you got might of been one of the last square post batterys they had in stock
