Default RS500 Intercooler power levels

How much power can be had using a 50mm thick RS500 intercooler?

I have looked at Pro Alloys kits for the Mk1/2 Escort but was told 400bhp was the most you can get from the 50mm thick core in that car? anyone pushing more near 500bhp in a Mk1 Escort??

Airtec are working on there kit for the Mk1/2's

I once thought about buying a mk2 and stripping my 3dr for the parts but was advised by all the blokes in my local group Cumbria who know old skool inside out that 400 would need some serious strengthening if done correctly as the boot floor ripping up was one of the issues so i left it best person to speak to is Dingy over on the rsoc website

Think a 50mm thick one is on its knees around 420bhp

I wouldn't say an intercooler has a limit as such as the engine spec is where the main power is produce there - look back to the 80/90's they were producing good power then and some would have used 50mm core

I'm now wondering if I need to upgrade my cooler as im sure mine is a 50mm pro alloy one and mine is at 500. Although those spec r ones show they perform well I think I'd still go for a thicker pro alloy one . Maybe these would have performed well if tested with the others .

I have a 75mm pro alloy on my car that will soon be back to back tested with my new spec r but when pete from spec r looked at mine he said the core looks awesome but the outlets and end tank design are shite and he is very confident that not only will it be better but it will knock the socks of it!!

cheers danny

That will be good to see mate and I'll keep a look out i'n the forsale section for some secondhand pro alloy coolers . Mines no where near the spec of most of the cars on here anyway and can't warrant spending over 700 quid for an intercooler as mine isn't even a track car it's just a toy. Although when mapped they never said my old cooler was a problem

Im going to get RS500 IC for my stage 2 Sierra Cossie. Im planning of ordering it from dcperformance, they have Forge Motorsport RS500 intercoolers, I suppose its same quality as Blitz, Pace, Radtech, etc.? Does it generally give some extra hp, since the stock 4x4 IC is size of a harmonica.
