Default 4WD cooling for 2WD

I am going to fit a 4x4 water pump and thermostat housing to an otherwise unchanged 3dr cooling system.

Which hoses do I have to go for ? I know about top and bottom hose have to be 4WD, but what about the hose running from thermostat housing to turbo and the one connected to the pipe below the cooler ?

I guess 4WD as well, but there are two versions (pre/post "facelift" - never heard about sapphire having been facelifted); I`m confused a little.

Maybe someone can clearify

Thanks

You'd need pre facelift. the difference is the metal pipe that bolts to the bottom of the radiator. The pre facelift is the same as a 2WD sapphire, the facelift has a different shaped metal pipe, so the silicone hose that joins to it it different.

You WON'T be fitting a 4wd water pump to a 205 block in a 3 door, as they don't fit, way too deep, or do you have a 200 block.

I have a 4x4 water pump fitted to my 205block without any problems, the thermostat housing might be a problem if your on a 2wd head with 2 bolt holes instead of the 3 you need.

I was under the impression the depth of the impeller on the 4wd pump was too deep to fit in the 205 block, obviously not if you've done it.

This is true, the fins need machining down 5mm or so to clear the studs

Thanks for the replies.

I have a brand new 4x4 pump and a shot peened thermohousing on the shelf waiting to go into my 205 block. Therfore I`m happy tabetha`s hasty assumption was wrong.

Cheers

BTW the head is genuine 3dr but has three threadholes for the thermostat housing - one being unused with the original one

My "hasty" assumption was based on what I was told by a pf trader about 6 years ago who certainly should have known the correct situation, had I known this I would have fitted a 4wd pump to my own engine for the extra pumping capacity for a little extra peace of mind.

You only need a 'bent bottom pipe' that bolts onto the radiator if it's a late spec green block with the mutlirib belt.

Mine's a red top 4x4 and it's the same pipes as a 2wd

no offence, tabetha. I just would have been annoyed if the parts I bought for good money would have been useless for the 205.

I will give a report when installing the pump.

Cheers
