Default ok, well it's not quite a sierra anymore

Hi all

im in the process of building a kit car at the moment based on a 2.0 pinto sierra - so hopefully you guys can help me!

the engines a 2.0, with big valves, piper 285 cam, vernier pulley set at 0degrees and twin 40 dellortos which all sounds good. but it wont run and i cant think for the life of my what it might be!

the carbs came off a similar spec pinto and ran fine. the engine has had a recent rebuild (not by me) and the has had all the pumps, gaskets etc replaced but hasnt run since.

there is spark and using "easy start" i can get it fire but then dies. so i think it might be a fuel problem.
i'm still using the standard mechanical fuel pump will this be ok for twin 40's? - having said that i had a 32/36 dgav on prior to these twin 40's and it still wouldnt run.

it's using points ignition if that makes any difference at about 8degrees

when i took the plugs out they were wet which confused me even more. they're brand new plugs, gapped correctly at 0.6mm iirc

only thing im not 100% sure about is the cam timing. i've compared it against my spare 1.6 pinto and it looks to be the same so im midly confident thats right.

Has anyone got any suggestions as i'm about out of ideas and dont really want to pay someone to come out!

Many thanks, andy
