sapp started over heating
Dear All
Plase could someone please help, me sapp started over heating recently but the fans have been cutting in and the temp needle going off into red and header tank boiling out collant. So I have now got a new thermostat, seal and gasket to see if this will cure it. I changed this, and found it was pissing out water from the housig as I did not apply red/sealant.
I was told all I have to do was to clean the housing surface place gasket and tighten the 2 nuts and should be ok? I know this should be striaght forward, but has anyone else had similar issues? Should i us 2 gaskets and red selant and do I have to leave this to go off?etc first?
You help is much appriciated.

Your overheating sounds pretty serious. Have you checked the flow in the radiator?

It sounds a lot more than just the stat tbh, the best sealant to use is the Loctite one sold in Halfords, as easy to get but long term buy yourself some loctite 5900 or 5910.
The obvious excessive pressure is normally a sign of a duff head gasket though.
If you use a cometic reuse able stat gasket don't use any sealant it's not needed.

Many Thanks guys for your advice
I installed a new air tec rad and switch and there are no leaks, or air in the system.
The old thermostat was properly welded in the housing with the clip all corroded, I finally got this loose.
There are no signs of blown head gasket yet, but will check this out.
Thanks very much

To be honest mate, sometimes with head gasket failures there are no other indicators other than excessive overheating. It depends where the gasket fails as to what symptoms your car gets. Mine failed recently after upgrading my turbo and the car wasn't smoking or anything else, just getting very hot.

+1, seems a common thing on 2WD head and I bet OP'S is 2WD, if the water is not leaking it will be getting boiled which is easily shown by excessive steam from exhaust, Do you know what HG you have, if you have standard HG which is unlikely then 99.9% it will be that.
