Default sapp started over heating

Dear All

Plase could someone please help, me sapp started over heating recently but the fans have been cutting in and the temp needle going off into red and header tank boiling out collant. So I have now got a new thermostat, seal and gasket to see if this will cure it. I changed this, and found it was pissing out water from the housig as I did not apply red/sealant.

I was told all I have to do was to clean the housing surface place gasket and tighten the 2 nuts and should be ok? I know this should be striaght forward, but has anyone else had similar issues? Should i us 2 gaskets and red selant and do I have to leave this to go off?etc first?

You help is much appriciated.
