xmas tree rear lights
My electrics to rear lights have gone up the blink, i,ve cleand the terminals on the cluster, and tried to crimp the connectors in the plastic block with still no joy
Is the brown wire the earth and can anyone tell me where the earth goes to, it seems the wiring goes straight back up the car , i thought surely the earth would be near to the clusters?

Welcome to the joys of ford ownership, no other manufacturer supplies disco lights for raves!!
The connectors are hopeless, as are the pins they connect to on the bulb holder part, as std the pins are galvanised, ace for stopping corrosion, shit for electrics as high resistance, causing micro arcing between plug and board connectors, leading to these problems.
Best solution is to hard wire it in, dead easy and well worth while, at the same time adding a dedicated earth wire, brown is indeed earth, and if followed on bulb holder tracks will be seen as the only one that goes to every thing.
All I do is drill a small hole about 2.5-3.5mm in each track, then solder the wire for it direct to this, the sharp edge of the hole ensures a great contact, then add a wire to the earth track then extend to a nearby good earth, if using the lights holding bolts scrape back to bare metal first connect up then apply sealant over the area.
You might also want to consider the 4 brake light mod, for a grand total cost of about 10 pence!!
BY putting a rectifier diode between the fog light track and the brake light track this will illuminate your fogs also under braking, but WILL STILL WORK TOTALLY ON THIER OWN.
This is 100% LEGAL, and will go through the mot no problem, as the rear fogs still work on thier own when turned on, leaving just the normal brake lights to light under braking, it always gets mentioned on every mot for every car I've put it on, and after reading the rule book for some a pass is always issued, seems a nice safety upgrade for a few pence.
