Guys need some confirmation here....
I took my 2wd bottom pulley off, but the pullers caught one of the trigger teeth and broke it so I needed a replacment. I've bought an early 4wd one from ebay still with 4 teeth BUT they seem to be wider - will this effect the timing? Also it has three holes in the front which the 2wd one has'nt - is this an issue?
It was a last minute bidding thing so did'nt have time to check mine but I thought, its got 4 teeth rather than the 36 or so, that the later 4wds have, so should be fine![Red Faced](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)

going from the 4 to 36 teeth i wouldnt risk it? just get a 2wd one mate, im sure you would even be able to get new one from ford and wouldnt be that expensive.

The marginal wider teeth are a plus. It does not affect timing but they are stronger and will not brake as fast as the 2-wd ones.
No Sierra Cosworth uses 36-teeth standard, that's a group A pulley, used with a Pectel engine management system.

36-1 wheel is actually a standard EECIV escort pulley ![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
Probably called a group a item on ebay to double the price![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
As above, using a 4wd pulley will make no difference to your car

Before fitting take out the woodruff key from the crank nose and apply some fine lapping paste, and then put pulley on and rotate round and round back and forth till it's snug not stupidly tight like most are, my pulley is a snug fit after doing this, and can be removed with the pressure of just 1 finger VERY easily, then clean all up, insert key back and put on as normal.
As said only st escos used 36-1 as std, the L series ecu were never fitted with 36-1.

I've got an ST escos I just thought that all the later 4wd engines got the 36 - 1 as i'm sure i've seen one on a "normal" yb thats why I'd got confused.
So thats great news. Really good that the 4wd pulley will be better than the 2wd one, if it had been stronger in the first place then the tooth wouldent have cracked probably

Does anybody have any tips of fitting the crank seals before i put it back on? Manual says a special tool. I use 3/4" socket set for most seals but dont have a socket that large........

there are 2 types of 4wd pulley - the early one with 3 grooves for the belts as per 2wd and the later one which uses the multi ribbed serpentine belt which allowed for air con to be fitted, both only had 4 teeth. As long as you have the 3 groove type it will be fine
pretty sure the 36 tooth escos ones were multi rib as well

For fitting the new crank seal use a bit of tube that is the same size, anything that won't crush after a bit of tapping, maybe a thin bit of plastic pipe like drainpipe the thinner diameter ones.
Try and see if you can get a Viton seal for this, as will last much better.
All(st) escos were multi rib.
If you've seen one on a sierra YB engine it was using a different ecu, I use 36-1, but welded the trigger wheel to my crank pulley after machining the lip/4 lugs off to get aligned, it actually lines up dead centre now over cps, I didn't even need to adjust the sensor gap, used a cast rod to weld, and got it within 1.8 degrees bang on tdc out of 360 degrees, so pretty good I thought as was by eye!!

Just a good eye I suppose, and a lot of luck.
Though my eyes do have a lot of practice and my mind, when I drive past the high school at chucking out time!!
