Gearbox bearing replacement
Sinmce finishing the build of my 3dr, my gearbox (supposidly re-conditioned when i bought it - yeah right!) has been amazingly whiny!
Have replaced the release bearing with no effect, the box whines on tick over and even louder when driving, getting more high pitch as you increase speed.
I've heard that it could be the spiggot bearing or input shaft bearing, i think i know where the spiggot bearing is, thats th one on the output of the engine, is this just pull off and replace?
Its The input bearing shaft of the box that confuses me, am assuming its inside the box itself??, how hard are these to change - and how do you do it (or do i need a specialist to do it)
The box iteself feels great to drive, it changes gear lovely and is nice and tight, it just whines! And when you put the clutch in the noise slowes down until it stopps, then immedietly comes back when you take your foot off the clutch.
The box is full of oil too - brand new stuff. (millers 75/90 and a shot of molyslip)
Cheers!

Very unlikely to be the spigot bearing, as to generate the noise you have from such a small bearing I would have expected it to have gone bang by now.
You will not be able to replace the input bearing cone, it is a tapered bearing on the input shaft and it is a tight fit on the shaft, the inner part of the race is closest to the gearbox, the outer part of the input bearing is towards the front.
