Hi, has anyone any idea why the temperature gauge only slightly moves when engine at full operating temp - it did go to mid point previously, also I have never heard or seen the electric fans operate? Engine appears to run okay.
Its a 1990 Sierra 2.0 DOHC.
Appreciate any advice.

Just test the cicuit by earthing out the gauge sender wire on the engine, if the gauge goes to full reading, ie as hot as it can get the gauge is ok, if not the gauge or wiring is duff.
As said almost defo the sender, they don't last forever.

Plus if you don't like where the temp needle sits, try another one as the senders often make the needle sit differently . Did on mine anyway

Early sierra gauges actually had adjustable platforms so the needle reading could be changed!!
If this has not had this sensor changed for 20 odd years, is the CTS the same age ?, if it is change it now.
