Default VSS on T5 box

Hi,

i will be swopping the MT75 box i currently have on my sapphire for the T5 box.

what i was wondering is having looked at the T5 where does the VSS pick up come from. i can see the speedo cable connection at the back on the box, and then on the opposite side about half way down are 2 lug connectors i presume. is this where the vss is or am i getting confused?

any help would be appreciated as am hoping to do this job at the weekend.

it is the vehicle speed sensor, it provides the ecu with information about the speed the car is travelling, is also used for the fuel computer

Hmm, I'm wondering if any rwd Cosworths ( T5 boxed ones ) came with the fuel computer or whether it was just later 4x4 ones?
That may explain why there's no provision on the T5 box for the VSS? Just a guess chap and I'm sure people will tell me I'm wrong but I've not seen a rwd Cossie with a fuel computer. AFAIK the T5 box used a conventional speedo cable with a small gear inside the box

Are you converting from 4x4 to rwd?

I am researching this very thing at the mo, seems no one does a VSS fitting for a T5, but that's not to say that there isn't one.
The problem is there are over 260 versions currently of the T5, even the SSANG YONG Musso & Korando used a version!!, as well of course as GM, FORD, to name a few.
I am sure that eventually I will track one down that will fit straight in, failing that I'll see about making one , the VSS is only around £30, and shouldn't be too hard to graft on.
I'm doing this as going lecky speedo(smiths telemetrix), TVR when using this box used a sensor on the diff casing to read the ouput from shaft, I assume they would have researched this to see if there was a drop in VSS for the T5, but you never know.
You can get units that convert from one count to another, so in your case if push came to shove could always use this reading off the diff outpout etc, converted into your pulses per mile of the oe sensor you have.

since putting the post on here i have asked some questions else where and have indeed found that the T5 didnt have an prevision for a VSS. there are adaptors to suit a type 9 box which i cant see why it wouldnt fit on the T5 that if going to an electronic speedo would be perfect, aslong as it does fit the T5 (but cant see why it wouldnt).

thanks for your help tabetha but think i will just leave the fuel computer as the engine i am using can work without the VSS.

i am actually converting a 24v V6 BOA cosworth engine from the granada cosworth from using the rwd mt75 to using the T5 in my sapphire 2000e

Am sure the burton one was much smaller diametre, I could have made a ring up but thought if doing that may as well make it from scratch how I want then.
