Done it on a lot of cars, but not the cossie yet, but when engine is out and I do, I will machine a boss if the casing is not thick enough.
Worked perfectly in every car I did though.

on the one i think i've got, there was a hole int he sump big enough to stick a threaded bit of bar into to give it the depth for the sender which was then braised into place

at least that way you can always remove the bit of metal you put in rather than have to retap the sump again if you over tighten it

I had a sump plug mounted sensor. Magnet in the plug isnt going to do a lot and they don’t come with them lol. But as my sump is off I now have a boss welded into the sump

If you want to do it properly then remove the sump and have it drilled and a 1/8 boss welded on to the sump. Plus if you just drill and tap it in situ you will end up with more metal in the sump.

If you are taking off the sump it is probably worth going big wing at the same time. I assume that you are concerned about oil temps and the extra volume would help, I expect the supplying company can make sure it has a boss on it.
