Default Up and down movement on my steering wheel (saph)

How much movement is "normal" in your steering wheel, when i sit in the car i can move the wheel up and down a bit, with the adjuster thing locked so it should stay in the same place?

Could either be one of the bearings or the adjuster bushes have worn a little. Remove the lower cowling and see if you can just nip the adjuster lock-nut up a fraction with the lever released.

All options are easy to replace, you just need to have a look and see where it is moving, top, middle or bottom

mine has a habit of clunking now and again, I know there was a rack put in it at some stage but I wonder would this noise also come from the steering column

The bulkhead bushes are around Ł3-Ł4, that's all, some midiot on mine had replaced this, and just let the shaft lay in the bush, hadn't even pushed the centre piece down the shaft.

the plastic bulkhead bush should be seen as a service item rather than fit and forget, don't know how manytimes i've changed them

there is a little locking plate that holds it in place, but failing that, use a cable tie to lock it into place over the top of the metal clip thing

when you put the stuff together, make sure you push all the bits onto the shaft and into the footwell before poking it out the bulkhead
