Default 4x4 Saph Fan switch

What size spanner is required for removal and re-fitting?

Many thanks in advance

Considering there are a couple different fan switches you might be right. My ugly little fan switch that was in my rad seemed awfully small compared to the other bosch switches I have seen in heads and intakes and it never came on at a good temp.

Anything to do with Cossie fans = FAIL.

Either put up with the repeated overheating problems, or buy a BMW, Vauxhall, Citroen, Volvo, etc. etc.

Cossie's don't overheat if all is correct.
I do 4-6 hours traffic stop start stuff some days, fan cycles on and off, the problem is the stat is trying to keep it at a set temp and the fan is trying to bring it down lower than the stat wants, wrong switch fitted by ford, and bad combo.
Mine cycles between 95C down to 92C set between these points, with my 88C stat, going to 92C stat next winter though.
The fan looms are in desperate need of overhaul though.

I must admit, mine has never overheated either....not even in the South of France sat in 27 deg C ambient heat in the stop-start traffic in Grasse.

However, I bought one of the Stu type fan switches and an aftermarket fan loom to try and future-proof the cooling system.

I believe the Stu switch cycles the fans more ...but for shorter run periods i.e it will not try and bring the temp down as low as the standard Ford one so it will generally be on for less time in one go......but will go through more 'cycles' in a given time period.

That's as I understand it anyway. I can't find the proper explanation that Stu did

The switch that stu sells is a lot more suited to the job than the one ford fitted, yes it does cycle more but for shorter periods, as hysterises is closer, a defo worthwhile mod imo, even on a boggo std cossie.
The wiring issues though on cossies fans/pump are a must too.
I don't use a std ecu anymore so set to what temp I want, and 95C ON, 92C off seems to work well, on about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes each cycle, have me little fan led in the tacho corner lights up blue when it's on!!
Had no end of trouble with stats so use WAHLER now.

Use adjustable, they are not tight.
You absolutely must have a stat, you will kill your engine without one.

The knack is to do it without changing the coolant! As you unscrew one, plonk your thumb over the hole......then stick the new one in really quick. The less coolant you lose ....the more skilful you are!

They defo don't overheat when right, spent 1 hour today crawling around less than 10mph, just idle speed in 1st gear most of the time, fan came on and off didn't even get bothered about it.

my 1990 sapphire has 57k on it and still using original water pump would it be advisable to change sooner rather than later, as in before 60k?

The water pumps/cooling system on the 4wd are vastly better than the 2wd, if not leaking I would leave alone, unless maybe if you were worried ?

had planned to do it but might get an alloy header tank instead, is there an any aftermarket thermostat more suited to the MSD fan switch, as in with a different temp to 82 degrees so maybe the fans and fan switch would work better with the stat overall? (does that make sense???)
