Default turbo to manifold gasket?

We took the turbo off of the exhaust manifold at the weekend and there was no flange gasket between it and the turbo inlet - should there be one as I've seen Cometic ones for sale?!

As far as I know its a flush fit with no gasket - at least both my cars are like that.

You don't need one as long as both mating surfaces are flat. One less gasket to blow.
