Default Which Dump Valve?

Hi all,

Im going to buy myself a dump valve as i have nothing in place at the mo. I have am running a T34 turbo, RS500 intercooler and a standard airbox.
I had originally planned to get a recirculating one but I couldn't find the correct hoses for this as i have just upgraded to some roose hoses. So i currently have a dump valve hole on the cold side. Is it possible to plumb a recirculating dump valve into the oil breather on the air box? (i have an after market breather system and the standard breather on the air box is currently blanked off) Is there any point to doing this? I wouldnt mind going for a normal dump valve (as it would be easier with my hose set up), but can anyone recommend a quiet one as i dont want loud pshhh everytime I lift off!

Cheers
Mike.

There is nothing to stop you from venting dumped pressure back as you suggest.
I don't know of any quiet ones, but piston ones tend to be quieter, I can't have enough noise myself a chav on the quiet!!

i presume your hose from air box to turbo doesnt have a take off? If so Burtons do a self sealing hose fitting https://www.burtonpower.com/product_...px?CCode=PC070 this can be put into the hose, then run a re-circ dump valve from the cold side through a pipe to the aif filter hose, like on the RS500's

If you don't want the noise, then don't run one. You don't need to with the turbo you're running.

Yes, you presume right. Those self sealing things are tempting, I will probably end up getting one of them and a re circulating DV.

Thanks for all your help so far!

i have a spec-r one, good hard spring so i get waste gate chatter first, then when it does dump, it isn;t too loud, just a nice sound at a sensible level.
I had a Bailey piston one for about a day, it drove me fooking batty.

as Pa sjo says, you dont need a DV with the turbo/ power you are running; it wont cause any damage - however if you are concerned just get a re-circ valve.

DV are great to begin with but they soon get tiresome and annoying
personally i prefer the "chatter" noise from the airbox, i ran a t34.55 with peak 2 bar with no problems what so ever

Right, been abit slow on buying one and Ive bitten the bullet and got myself a dv30. Still need to buy the hose to recirculate it yet. I was having a look over the weekend and forgive me if im being dumb, but where does the small vacuum hose come from that goes on the top of the dump valve, does it route round to the amal valve or to the inlet manifold? or neither?

you take the feed off of the vacume pipes that run on the top of the inlet; dont use the fuel pressue one tho

If you want it quiet use the hole in the airbox as you said. would work fine. But you HAVE to run a dump valve no matter what power or turbo you run. maybe it works without one, but then its just a question how long your turbo will last...

Alex; you dont need a dump valve unless you are running silly horse power

i had a t34.55 (370hp) running 2 bar and it was fine

its fine, maybe it will last for a few tousand miles. But if you have a turbo that isnt fresh out the box the brearing will get fooked up pretty quick and the DV will reduce the load of the bearings...

I fitted my dump valve last night, all went well! Im suprised at the difference it makes, its much better when lifting off and changing gear, and it doesnt make the pshh noise which im well chuffed about lol I even managed to fit it to the air box too!
