Default Cossie's That Cant Be Driven UPDATE

Is there anyone who is in the same position as me.

I have been away under the ocean waves for 3 months and have come back to be reminded that my car has no MOT, so the missus is having to drive me around. In a good way it keeps the miles down but I am pulling my hair out as I have not got the time until Jan 09 to get it MOT'd.
I would just put it in and hope it would pass but there are a few things that need sorting for it to pass, so that delays me driving it. Plus waiting for parts to arrive in the post blar blar balr, sorry if I'm going on.

Any way just thought i would start a thread to see if the are any other cossie drivers who are according to my missus "ACTING LIKE A CHILD OVER IT" and feeling p**sed off cause they cant drive there pride and joy for any random reason like mine or no tax, driving ban, even too busy to drive their car. Anything.

cheers.

I last drove my XR4Ti 7 years ago. They tore it apart trying to steal it and I decided it was restoration/mods time.

My GSX-R1000 habit got in the way for many years. Currently I spend 6+ hours per day on it. Rebuilt my rack today, rewired the fuel fump, hung a new rad. Got a long way to go.....

Not surprised you spent six hours a day on it....must be some engineering effort involved in fitting a rack to a gixxer

Yeah plus a few other bits!

I had the arches supposedly 'fixed' not too long ago but they bubbled up after about not even a few months! Was not amused!

To replace both rear arches, tidy up and underseal the underneath, paint the engine bay, repair a door that some mindless cock thought would look better with a fuck off big dent in it, a full back to bare metal respray in the new focus st frozen white and a load of other bits and bobs, I got quoted just shy of Ł3.5k and they would want the car for 2-3 months!

Thats with a discount through my best mates dad as well as they do all his classic american cars.

The quality of their work is spot on judging by the cars that i have seen come out of there!

i should think so at that price. maybe the previous sprayer didnt put enough wax oil in the inner arches or something. mine got done by the previous owner 4 years ago and the inner side of the arche just below the doors are bubbling but the main bit of the arches is just on its last legs with my paint touch up skills. i bearly got away with the arches at ford fair this year, but still had a few eagled eyes buggers pointing out my rear left arche. B*****ds lol.

I dont think the arches were done properly personally. To go the way they did in the short space of time was a joke! The paint on the offside arch has started to flake off too!

I had to have a new nearside front wing fitted a couple of years ago and i only noticed the other week where the wing is welded to the A pillar, he hasnt painted it so its gone rusty! Thats wrong imo!

Why do people feel the need to cut corners?

Thats why I dont mind paying the wedge if I know I'm gonna get a good job done!

Also funny how people always pick up on the bad bits on your car but never the plus points! Lol!

i know what you mean."oh he has rust on his arche". well then give me the money and ill get it sorted shipmate. i usually have to spend my money on other things on the car or the missus lol, to keep it running and hope the rust dont get worse. plus some people dont seem to realise that saph cossie's are renowned for rusting there. if only ford put lots of wax oil inside the arches to begin with.

i cant beleive the guy didnt spray next to the a pillar. what a t*t

a few months at sea will boost my bank balance then it will be time for the cutting of the arches. might get the front ones done and the bonnet blown over to get rid of the stone chips too.

Mine's like driving the Circus Clown's car at the moment, steering has a mind of it's own, worrying the balljoint is about to disintegrate - fact is I SHOULDN'T be driving it but I am. Does that count?

I act like a spoilt child when mine's off the road for one reason or another, and I get even more stroppy if anything scuppers my plans to fix it, or even slightly holds up my progress. You're not alone

mine was in bits when i got it,built it up then took it apart for a respray, sat at the asshole painters for about 6 months.went for it and it was covered in dust and bird shit and was being used as a bench.took it somewhere else and got it fully resprayed smokestone blue.with new front screen and having the new rubbing strips and sideskirts fitted i was Ł3200.+ all the new exterior trim, clips, spoiler, lights, badges, window mouldings.it probably ended up being more like Ł6000 once i had finished.then i took it apart to rebuild the engine.next is the underside.i like having it in bits tinkering more than driving it!and buying that elusive obsolete part, thats fun.

Happy with that! Link is great bloke, saved to my bookmarks!

When I finally get mine back and get the new box in I'll see what they can do for the ugly bodywork!!

Spider, if I get hit on the way down the M6 when I do get it back then I'll be being looked after by my brother for a long time! (He is a prison officer for those of you that don't know!!)

Some debris may have got blown through from somewhere and was holding two of the valves open slightly! It looks like V minimal damage so it should hopefully be sorted this week!
