apparently, the most flammable material in the engine bay is not the petrol as you would expect, it's the brake fluid.

that is why you must always have a heat shield around the master cylinder on a turbo engine.

its possible for a diesel engine to pick up and start running on the oil. if this happens stay well clear. the engine will rev well above the limiter until a) it runs out of oil and seizes ot b) catches fire. unfortunately no way of shutting the engine off if this happens

hmmmm

my PAS pipe in my astramax van was the cuase of my bonnet fire! was modded to do away with the 4x4 disactivating on brakeing.
the guy i got the van from is well known so no names but he used a BRAIDED FUEL LINE instead of a high pressure PAS pipe!

and to top it off PTS fitted it!!!

some pics of the damage...

before i rescued the van after sitting 3years... PAS pipe replaced 9miles ago

Default Fires

On cossys, alot of the time its the rubber fuel pipe between the fuel rail and the fuel pressure regulator, this gets old and can split, spraying fuel all over a hot turbo!! I know of at least 5 over the years that have gone up this way!!Best to replace the pipe with braided hose, this is much stronger.

If this every happens this is what you do. You have to be quick though. Open the bonnet, open up the air intake, from behind the filter housing, and ram your jumper, tee shirt, trousers, underpants, socks, whatever in there.

This will suffercate the engine, and hey presto, it'll dye before it dye's.

i know what u mean mate. I have a 2 litre pinto at the mo and the soundedening on the fireall was set alite by the exhaust and the shorted the reverse light switch out. Put out in 5 seconds and a week of re wiring to get the thing running again. The drivers side indys wouldnt work either so we reqired em. It is running again and on the road soon.
Cheers
James
