Is it a flash code system then. I take it the led flashes and there is a chart with the codes on that you follow.

Pardon my ignorance - what does 1+1, 1+2, 1+3 etc mean?
Are these codes relevant to a non-Cosworth DOHC EFI?

1+1 indicates flash, pause, flash
1+2 indicates flash, pause, flash. short pause, flash
1+3 indicates flash, pause, flash. short pause, flash. short pause, flash
etc.

The DOHC codes on the EEC IV are completely different and there are many more of them. The diagnostic socket is by the positive battery terminal. A Gunson Fault Code Reader is ideal for reading these codes and comes with the code list.

Forgot to mention, there are two types of plug used on the Sierra, there's a 3 pin and a five pin version. The fault code readers are available with both types of plug, not sure of the codes though, or which one you need.

No, you car has Ford EEC management, opposed to the Weber of the Cosworth, this may help http://www.troublecodes.net/Ford/eec-iv.shtml
