Group A coils r they any good n do they have any advantages or disadvantages.( My car is a saph 4x4.)

 

Get one, get one, get one, that's all I can say.
If I had £40 or so to spend on my car this is what without doubt I would spend it on.
It idles MUCH smoother, starts MUCH better, pulls MUCH better low down.
Don't ask for downsides as there aren't any, unless you count ten minutes work to chop some wires about, ie puit on some different terminals, it even fits in the same place as the std one, with the same holes.
The only odd thing is finding the + and - marks, they are between each pair of terminals.
Honestly other people who have fitted them have said to me it is the best mod for the money they have ever done.
Just make sure you use decent leads plugs to take FULL advantage of it.
My sapphy pulls from 850 rpm in TOP without moaning, not like a rocket obviously but amazing you leave it in higher gear longer and it pulls harder, when I have been overtaking things I have gone to grab 3rd gear to change up and missed as it was already in 4th.
It really is so much smoother.

A group A coil transformed my "RS Misfire" Was missing on boost, changed everything else, you know, plugs leads yadda yadda, fuck all difference, Group A coil and everything was yummy again.

 

Sweet for 40 quid u carnt go wrong eh. I know my car on idle feels a bit lumpy. Do u get anymore mpg,even though im not that bothered. Well the next show im at with a spare 40 quid i will treat myself 2 1 for my car.

 

group A coils are great!been told that they r what the cossie mangement system was originally designed to run with until ford changed it to one of theirs??

 

Got mine from MATT LEWIS 01922 692424, ace person to deal with very reliable, I know he is away at moment with family concerns, but is back shortly, and I do beleive going on the net with shop as well!!
Tbh I have not looked for any mpg improvement, but it does seem that it is better at normal speeds, trouble is I did not buy car to do normal speeds, so any improvement in power is used!!

Well like i said i will have 2 get 1 bought dont the group A coils have 4 spade connectors on the side what r they all 4 i know u will have a live n an earth.

 

got 4 connectors but u only use two like u said one for live and one for earth

 

100 % get one just gotta cut of plugs and crimp on 2 spades and bolt it down in original holes.
peace of piss and well worth the 35 quid.

 

Don't forget to wire the correct way!!
The + and - are between each set of terminals, hidden a bit, as used as oe kit on DELTA INTERGRALI!!

So the 4 connectors are the just 2 lives n 2 earths on the group A coils then.

 

It has a pair of twin connectors, one side live the other side earth(ECU).
On the lancia it uses a multiplug to go over these which uses all four terminlas as the other two are suppressor one side and coil the other terminal.

Very hand the additional connectors if you want to connect aftermarket rev counter to your car.

 

So if i bought 1 it wudnt matter which terminals i used for the live n earth i cud just pick 1 of each live n earth terminals.

Well each month i spend a little on my car.this month ive been getting a bit of body work done. Ive got a new back bumper 2 put on. So hopefully next month i might b able 2 get a group a coil.

 

Fucking tell me about it. Ok so this month more than usual, but so far this month:

Rear bumper (too lol, them sneaky hidden bollards doh!)
Front hubs.
Front N/S indicator.
Dashboard upper & lower (mine full of holes).
Alcon 6 paddle clutch.
Pair of front Avo coilovers.
Samco hose from T34 to air filter (existing one a bodge from wrong size Samco).
Starter motor.

my coil arrived yest from mike rainbird,and a set of rear shims,just wondering does it matter which terminals i use,i.e. does it matter which positive terminal and which negative terminal i connect to?

No they're both the same.

 

As said does not matter which so long as pos and neg the correct way.
There are two terminals on each as this is a LANCIA DELTA INTERGRALI part that uses all four, it has a moulded plug that fits over all four on the lancia that's all.

nice one,ill have the car back on the road today,its been off the road the last few weeks due to changing the back end to 7.5",gonna wait till tomorrow till i change the coil,give myself a day of before-and-after driving first to see can i notice much difference between each coil

 

Just change it, with decent leads ie magnecor and plus plat tip you cannot fail to notice, the difference really is that much.

Well ive bought a group A coil from national day. I will just have 2 fit it now i was thinkin about joining the spade wires 2 the original wiring without cutting the bullet connectors off or make a bit of wire with connectors on each side. I cud use make bullet connector on 1 side n spades on the other side for the new coil.

 

Buy a MSD coil...these are even better then the "group A " ones.

I did have all the coils....std coil ....2 times a Group A coil....and now a MSD coil.

 

If you are reffering to a COILPACK conversion, yes it is better but so is the price!!
When you can get a vastly superior standalone ecu for less than the cost of coilpack and closed loop for a w/m ecu it might not make sense.

Nope, i'm not referring to a coilpack conversion....only a std plug and play coil which will replace the std Cosworth coil.
And the MSD coil is cheaper then the "group A" one.

Look at the picture from my engine bay, you can see still a piece of the coil.




Never missed a beat, while the std and "group A" coil did.

 

hmmm interesting, didnt even know these existed???

 

Well its 2 late now cause ive bought a group A coil now. But not 2 worry.

I fitted a Grp A coil to my Saph and drove it to Nat Day and back, no problems at all. I didn't fancy bridging the existing leads with a bullet and spade connector, so I cut the wires. Spade connector on each termainal and colour coded with heatshrink!

 

I used the other two terminals for OMEX shift light

 

I was going to use a FLAMETHROWER coil but was advsed not to by the people who sell it as being unsuitable, still must say the group a is defo loads better than the std ford fit one.

Well ive fitted my coil checked 2 make sure car runs in its all ok. Im going out in my cossie 2 a meet tomorrow so will see how good it is. I bought the coil for 15 quid so what a bargain i was thinkin that i hope it worked before i fitted it cause it was second hand.

But the MSD coil is better then the group A one.
As said, i did have tried them all, and the car does run smoother and never missed a beat with the MSD one.
