Default 2.9 Cologne V6

Hi, just bought a new and virtually complete engine to go in my TVR but it is missing a rocker shaft assembly, I have a spare, but I dont have the oil splash shield that goes under it (not fitted on earlier engines ?)

Anybody got one spare ? or is it really nessessary or required with hydraulic lifters which this engine has, my current engine has solid lifters?

Finally, despite setting tappets religiously current engine is very "tappety" do you think using the hydraulics will improve that ?

Thanks, Mike.

hydraulics are good at automatically taking up the slack but a lot of them dont like extreme revving.
otherwise it could be something else knocking or clicking.
i was convinced for ages my engine was a bit tappy but my mate pointed out its the injectors opening and closing.
ya never know, you might be setting them just fine

Had a tappy 2.8. Thought the same as you but turned out on mine to be nothing more than worn alt belts. Can't imagine the motors being that different in layout, a slight drip from expansion tank hoses will be guaranteed to land on the belts and make em slip enough to wear quick. They didn't scream on mine when they slipped they just 'tapped' in time with the engine.
