Default Idle speed problems

Can anyone help me please I can't get my head around this at all, I have a ford puma R reg when I first start the car the revs are at about a thousand rpm then once it's been driven for a while when you come to a complete stop the revs drop to just above five hundred rpm, but here's the quirky thing while the car is still in motion with the clutch dipped or out of gear the revs will stay at just under a thousand rpm its only when the car comes to a complete stop they drop it is causing the car to stall when I try to pull away because as soon as you get the biting point on the clutch the revs plumit to almost zero, I would be grateful for any help, Many thanks Jay

Either you have a dirty idle speed control valve which will be somewhere on the inlet manifold / throttle body are. Very common issue. Remove and clean this and you'll probably be ok. Worst case you need a new one. Dont know if these have a vehicle speed sensor like the focus and mondeo as they are often a problem as well
