This exact same thing happened to my brothers 1.6 focus. Turned out to be the ecu. We only found out after we changed the coil and plugs as well. hope this helps

I don't know much about ecu's. could it be a wiring fault? or a faulty new coil pack, years back i had a 2.0 wide mouth frog scorpio, it was missing so replaced the coil pack still the same, after much head scratching took the coil pack back and swapped it for another and it was fine, I was unsure if the new coil pack was faulty so ford swapped it just to see and it was..

Can you not take a plug lead off one at a time and stick a spark plug in the end of the lead to see if it is sparking ok.Do this for all 4.

Hi Glen, no spark on lead one and four, Matt, we did wonder about the coil pack as it is not a genuine ford item but a decent make so maybe that would be a first port of call.

Then we figured it is on to the ecu but that looks to be a nightmare of a job to get out!!

I would take the coil pack back and try and swap it for another one.Im sure the 3 wires to the coil pack are 12v live a earth and a pulse live feed.Do you know anyone with a fiesta or a focus that you could just try a coil pack off.

Yes, 3 wires Glen, I have access to a 1.6 petrol focus, would the coil pack be the same?

When my wifes Vreg 1.25 16v fiesta had a misfire i used my dads 51 reg 1.6 16v focus coil pack just to check it and it worked. Then i went to my local motor factors and bought a new coil.
