Default puma with idle issuse

Hi guys,
I have recently bought a s reg 1.7 puma, for some reason it is idiling at about 1200rpm on the rev guage, i have taken the idle control valve and airflow meter off and giving them a good clean with carb cleaner but it still idles the same, ive checked for broken wires and they all seem fine, so my question is what could be causing it to idle high, and is there anyway of checking the bits to make sure i replace the faulty bits and not end up changing things on a trail and error basis ?
cheers

hi mate have you check the light coloured plug under the power steering pump, theres two wires going into it, if one has snaped then thats the reason you have a bad idle. i have had the same problems with mk5 fiesta zetec engines.

hi i have already cheked the wiring on the powers steering pump all is fine, the only other thing that happens occasionaly is when you dip the clutch the engine revs dont drop that quickly or go up a little then drop.

Could be a vacuum leak. Get some carb cleaner or easy start etc and spray it over inlet manifold gasket, vacuum lines etc. When the idle speed changes you've found your leak.

Ive tried this on all the vacume hoses, the only thing that brings the revs down to 1000rpm is banging the aircon on, but it still revs high when you put your foot on the clutch at junctions.

If it were me I would be looking at replacing the idle control valve next, they are incredibly sensitive and often fail. There are only a couple of different ones across the entire Ford range so if you know someone with a fiesta / focus etc then try swapping them over as long as the part numbers are the same.
