Default More Puma problems

A reputable garage quoted £145 to replace the back box and middle section of (R reg) Puma exhaust.

However, on taking it in to be done they said they believed the Cat needed replacing and to replace the whole exhaust and cat would be £450.

However, another garage looked at it and said it is NOT the cat, but the engine is misfiring (on three) and it will cost either £20 or £100 to fix depending if it is the plug, plug lead or coil pack(?) which needs replacing!

Which sounds correct?

coil packs on the puma zetecs are quite common, although if the cat is blocked you will have a severe lack of power and poor running,
i would suspect the coilpack first as its cheaper, once its running right then look at the rest?

Misfiring can kill the cat anyway, so they both might be correct, fix the misfire immediately if not sooner, then check what the emissions are before replacing the cat.
I did a cat earlier in the year on a mondy, and it was around £75 for the pipe with the cat in it all one piece.
Got it from Exhausts Unlimited.
