ST TDCI Buying guide
Hi all looking at a new car for couple of months now and seem to like the look at the ST TDCI as it looks amazing, with in my budget and main thing it can do 40-60mph. One has just came into a local dealer so I've been and had a good look round it, it's window price is 5k and it has 82k miles (56 plate) on it only points I've noticed is the rear bumper doesn't sit right a few cosmetic scratches and scuffs and the wheels need a refurb the deal says he will sort all this out for the asking price though,it has a good service history but I haven't seen it yet as it's still being collected of the previous owner. It's had 2 in total. So what's there to look out for? I know about the injectors. Being a problem what's this car like as a ever day car does it do the quoted mpg? What's up keep like? Is this a good price for the car? Colour :- performance blue and it's a hatchback
Any help would be much appreciated!!
Best regards
Joe

I like the looks of the St hence why I'd prefer it plus the optional extras that's on it too cruise, half leather, Sony cd, heated seats, body kit and 18" alloys also for some reason it's cheaper on insurance than a lx or a ztec

I've had mine for 4 1/2 years as a daily driver, got it on 24k miles and it's now done 110k..
In that time it's been serviced regularly and apart from new injectors at 36k, done under warranty and an egr valve at 86k it's been fine.. Touch wood!!!!
The drooping rear bumper is a fault on all facelift models but do a bit of searching online and you'll find loads of info on it..
I have also had to replace the rear subframe bushes but they're an issue on most mk3 mondeos...
As for mileage I do a mix of town and motorway and I get 45-55 mpg all of the time.

I've just purchased (collect tomorrow) a 06 ST TDCi Estate with 50K on the clock and yes I know I could have got a Titanium for less, but when you come to resell the ST will still stand out in a sea of Zetec and Titanium Mondeos.
But that's only half the story if you want something that looks the part and handles better then the ST is the way to go in my opinion. I've been looking for a tow car, but wanted some class and performance too, been looking at X-Type 2.2, Passat, other Mondeos and others manufacturers including I dread to say I even considered a French car!
It all depends what you want, I felt overall although the ST costs more in my case the deal I got from the deal worked. It was one of the best value (not cheapest) ST estates at Ł5900, but factor in low 50k mileage, new clutch kit (fitted this Tuesday), four tyre (fitted December), new rear box (fitted December), full ford service history and that the last owner really looked after the car I feel it was best value.
Yes for a Mondeo the ST it's top money, but you go find a rare top spec car with that sort of history and I think you'd struggle...I should know I've been looking for the past two months for a car that ticks all my boxes.
I had been considering buying a newer car with more miles too, including Mazda 6 Sport 2.2, but in comparison to the ST it's not sporty and rattles when you shut the doors. Yes it's might have more tech, but your not getting anything better in my option vs buying a high spec older car like the ST.
You need to take out the cars you like the look of and weigh up what you really want, in my case the ST I purchased with it's new clutch and all the other bits I've asked the dealer to do it only really cost me Ł4600 and should (fingers crossed) be trouble free for years.
Just do it, you'll be the envy of every other Mondeo driver.
