Default Injector washers (TDCI)

Hi. Just wanting to know, the washers at the base of the injectors, are they copper? Do they have to be replaced with copper ones? As there is a seller on eBay selling steel ones. Will there be an issue with this. Cheers.

copper usually they are the best ones to use as copper is soft, so helps seal.

make sure you recut the injector seats in the head and recut the seat on the end of the injector or it will be pointless changing the washers anyway as they will blow again very quickly
and yes use copper not steel most diesel specialists stock the washers and are generally cheaper than ebay

yeah didn't mention they need recutting, just Hoover out any crap that falls in after cutting, and if they have leaked and all covered in the gunk it's a nightmare, best stuff to use is acetone as it melts it.

the Merc ones are only 0.32€ each

Yes need to be copper, and must be the same thickness.

You can anneal them rather than replacing. But for the sake of cost, replace if available

I've never had to reseat anything, but it's never been after a long period. Would at least get any small bits of soot etc off the seat though

depends why they need changing, if it's just because you've took them out then no problem, but if they've been leaking or blowing it will defiantly need reseating as usually makes grooves I'm the head and or injectors.

I'm changing the injectors as they are goosed. One at a time as I can't afford to do the lot at once. Did a leak off test and injectors 3&4 were just filling my 200ml containers in seconds. But that's an injector fault nothing to do with the seating surely!!!!!

in that case clean the seats with acetone on a rag on a stick makes it easier then new washers shouldn't need reseating

I've been changing the injectors on these since, well ever since they started playing up, and never needed to re-cut the seats. Never seen any blowing either.

The Fiesta/Fusion/Mini/Citroen/French shit DW4/6, they blow, but they're a different engine altogether.

Really? Delphi changed mine and didn't recut the seats. Surely if anyone would know it would be them?

Ford ETIS (online workshop manual for all things Ford) doesn't mention it, or doing the leak offs at 2000rpm as I've seen mentioned on here too.
