Wots the difference between a mondeo tdci and a mondeo tddi?

Tdci is common rail injection,tddi is normal diesel injection,tdci is the one to go for,tdci has a high pressure pump that feeds each individual injector as required,tddi has 2 pumps,the hp pump is there to feed to the pump at the rail which feeds all injectors at the same time,I believe

They are the same basic engine but the Tddi doesn't have all the fancy injectors that go wrong like the tdci does. The Tddi was in the early mk3 mondeo's, built up to around the 52-03 plate I think. I've got a 51 plate tddi as my daily banger, can't fault it at all!

I've just bought a 51 plate tddi it's saying 34 mpg on info display is that correct or should I be getting more to the gallon

You'll be getting less than that. Probably under 30. TDDIs aren't as economic as TDCIs, but even then, that does sound very low unless all you're doing is driving around town, and thrashing the nuts off it.



TDCIs are faster, smoother, quieter and more economical than TDDIs but TDDIs don't have the same injector issues, or when they do they aren't anywhere near as expensive. They do suffer from lift pump failures, but it's not an expensive fix.

If I was looking for a Mk3 I'd only consider a Mk3 TDCi130 (or 2.2 155) and only one that had already had a replaced DMF and clutch, and replaced injectors. I get a high mileage car that had had the work done rather than a low mileage one that hadn't. The 'danger zone' appears to be between 80-100K miles.

ive got the tddi.no drivng it like i stole it anyway,ive been doing motorway miles really
the pump and clutch has been replaced on mine so thats a plus sign.


i was considering the st tdci in the near future so just make sure injectors and clutch has been replaced before buying.

i no we should all stick with fords but to be honest all ford diesels are crap much better with something german

Correct, but now new Ford dervs have PSA engines, and so are likely to be more reliable.

DMF is a duel mass fly wheel. A bag of crap and expensive consumable part.

VAG Diesels aren't exactly immune from issues. They're no more reliable that the TDCi Fords.

agreed they too have injector problems, accelerated cam wear, little ends go, waterpumps drop to bits etc etc...
