Default Mondeo is best

Hi All,

So the car park's full of Range Rovers, X 5s, Cayennes, Mercs, big BMWs and all that sort of thing. I work in an Aberdeen oil and gas company so there's a fair bit of cash and the same magnitude of ego floating around. Now I've got my 54 plate TDCi Mondeo and people are talking in the smoking shelter and we get the usual bollocks questions, "what's you ideal motor?" and that kind of thing. Well my ideal motor is a Ford Mondeo. And if I didn't have a Ford Mondeo I'd want a Ford Mondeo.

I'm posting this here today because my office told me to stfu and tell someone who gives a . Now I'm not suggesting that you do or will - But I think for the sake of my colleagues sanity I really do need to put it out there and try and move past this.

OK. So lets look at the facts here. We're dealing with a 54 plate TDCi Mondeo with the Zetec trim level. Some things jump right out here. We've got a sound system, (original equipment), that would have been Roy Bacer's dream ICE back in 2000. We've got Climate Control, not just a blower, not just AC. No - it's full on f'ing climate control. Front and back heated windscreens - not a biggy, not something you'd tell your grand children about, but it's there. Just thought I'd mention it. Then we've got nice big comfy seats. We've got cruise control. CRUISE CONTROL. I live in a city, I've never used it. But it's there. Ohh. And it does 61.3 MPG seemingly with or without the AC turned on. Nice. And the boot is so big I can get more shopping from ASDA in it than I can in my old man's 110 Defender - I bought a new double bed from Ikea and didn't think twice - it went in the boot, seats down, job's a good 'un - the car doesn't care - the boot just eats anything you throw at it - in the same way my trusty old Rottweiler eats anything I throw at him. And my mate's HP on his Cayenne cost him more in three months than my entire car did.

Mondeo is best. I'm pretty sure about that.

I suppose it depends if that trip computer thing is accurate. And I do drive slowly - at Kart Start for the Xmas do - I was about as quick as the marketing department girls - who were wearing high heals. .

But not long after getting it I needed to replace all the injectors at a cost of about Ł1200 - so it ought to be pretty good - in terms of effiecency at the moment?

Eitherway - It does loads more miles than my M reg 1.6 Escort used to do.

Come here quite a bit, never logged in though.... Last time was over 4 years ago, can't be arsed. Read this though and made me think "what a sound chap". And you made me chuckle!

Love mondies and am well aware of the "mundano" status. 2001 ghia x v6 bought for fuck all nearly 4 years ago and still costs me next to fuck all. Can't help but think of all those that have wasted 20k+ on HP etc with not really much to show as they're worth hardly owt after 5 years. Hoping not to sound massively opinionated, it's your money, I just can't bring myself to do it, regardless.

So to the op, I hope you have loads more years of cheap motoring where you can laugh when someone's opened their car door onto yours (and why's it always red paint?), a birds taken 12 shits on your roof, and when your sponge falls to bits and you've forgotten to buy another, you can use the kitchen sweeping brush to wash your car without giving a toss!
