Default Mondeo Cutting out whilst Driving

Hello I hope someone will be able to help me.

I have a Mondeo 1.8 petrol 53 plate. It has never been any trouble but has started (intermittently) cutting out whilst ive been driving along - 3 times this week

I'm able to lift the clutch and bump it back on again. It was serviced in January and I mentioned the problem to the garage and they said nothing came up on the diagnostic machine. The only other thing it does is that the lights (dash, interior and headlights have an intermittent flicker.

Im now thinking its time to sell as I dont want it to happen with the children in the car but thought id post a message on here in the hope that if its something other people had a problem with and can be easily fixed then great

Many thanks in advance,. Kate

Do the two faults occur together?

Hi Cossie - The lights flicker most of the time and the cutting out has started happening more frequently. One of the guys at work thinks it may be the alternator?

When it cuts out, do you 'bump' it as you unable to start it via the starter?

The flickering of headlights etc is normal when coming to stop etc, although it should not be massively noticeable, does it disappear when the revs are increased.

I just bump it as it happens when I am actually driving along (40-50 MPH)

Not noticed if the flickering stops when I give it revs, but if I am sitting on the drive with the engine running I can see the headlights flickering on the wall in front and the dash lights flickering too.

Perhaps an ignition issue, does the rev counter drop instantly when it dies?
