Default Any Advice welcomes! DMF/Crank Pulley?

Hey guys...

Last week i took my car into the garage to have the Auxhillary belt replaced, as it was making a whining sound. After getting it back, the noise was still there slightly, and the engine made a vibrating type noise. Anyway i ignored it, and the following day the car wouldnt start... *dash LED turned into ---, Red temp warning light was on as well as engine management light*. after 15 mins it started no problem and hasnt happened since. since then the noise in the engine has got much worse.. when i lower the clutch the engine sounds like its going to fall out, very tinny and rattly, any use of the clutch causes the extra noise. I have taken it to 2 garages, one thinks its just the Crank pulley or the tentioner, the other thinks its the DMF... Does anyone have any idea which it could be?

Its a 2002 mondeo, 217k miles.

Thanks!

Certainly sounds like typical symptoms of dmf failiure, they rarely last more than 100k so would say it's definately due!

Its £400 for the parts alone, and takes a few hours to do from memory, maybe less if you dont go the pub half way through!

does the engine rattle badly when youn turn it off ? i had a strange vibration and sound similar to what you are stating, i had the lower pulley replaced and now shes nice and quiet again, well for a diesel anyway!
Before i got the ST I had a ghia x 130 on a 03 plate - DMF cost me £1100 at birchwood ford.
